- 30% of pastors admit to sexual impropriety sometime during the course of their lifetime.
- For restoration, we need both to take seriously the integrity of trust that congregations put into its leadership, and also the integrity of being the body of Christ.
- What can be done for protection:
- Staff covenant
- Lead pastor has ‘sex-temptation talk’ with staff yearly
- Consider the destructiveness and repulsiveness of sin
- Avoid the moment of the ‘maybe’ (sin is rationalized, playing with the thought)
- Five “R’s” of resisting temptation
- Remember who you are – follower of Jesus, husband, father, leader in the church. . .
- Recognize the consequences of your actions – (imagine the worst possible outcome – cost)
- Rededicate yourself to God
- Reveal your struggle to a trusted friend (James 5:16)
- Remove yourself from the situation (do whatever is necessary to remove yourself from sin)
- No one is beyond redemption!
